Welcome to The Internet Journal of the NIUSR.
The National Institute for Urban Search and Rescue (NIUSR) is a non-profit organization devoted to improving urban disaster response. NIUSR is composed of volunteers, most of whom are active and retired professionals from government and industry.
The Internet Journal of the NIUSR pursues advancement of ideas in disaster response and readiness and utilizes the Internet for the collation and distribution of peer-reviewed articles. This non-profit journal is supported by NIUSR volunteer members.
The Internet format offers prompt publication of research, reviews, and commentaries that expand on theoretical and professional ideas. The Journal features contributions submitted by academics and practitioners from diverse backgrounds and includes articles that propose 'processes of emergency response' and 'long-range planning strategies'.
NIUSR Journal-appropriate articles should address the following NIUSR objectives:
Stimulate and support the development of technology and training enhancements for the first responder (police, fire fighters, paramedics).
Recommend better ways to manage and use all available resources to carry out and support disaster response operations.
Work with federal, state, and local government officials, including military authorities, to promote cooperation, sound policies, and support needed to ensure effective response to public needs during and immediately after disastrous events.
The goal of the NIUSR is to identify ways in which the U.S. can broaden and upgrade a comprehensive emergency mitigation, response, and recovery system to lessen the suffering of its citizens, reduce the devastation to their property, and preserve the integrity of the natural environment.
This journal offers a forum for the discussion of disaster response issues and furthers the role of NIUSR as a leader in humanitarian efforts.
